Domestic energy assessments are part of home information packs. ALL residential property for sale now needs a Home Information Pack (HIP) of which an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) is an essential part. From the 1st October 2008 ALL PROPERTY SOLD AND LET will need an EPC. The energy assessment is a survey of a property that creates an energy rating similar to one found on fridges and washing machines and other electrical appliances. An assessment also produces a list of recommended energy improvements.
The assessor collects data on the dimensions, construction, heating and hot water provision of the property and enters it into an approved software programme. The assessment rates the property from A–G and indicates its potential rating if all the suggested improvements are carried out. Only accredited and suitably qualified domestic energy assessors (and existing home inspectors) are allowed to carry out energy assessments. |
